Artist Spotlight 6th Edition: Cavern?

Music for the Moonlit Hours: Why Cavern? Should Be on Your Radar

Blacknalt Artist Spotlight 6th Edition:Cavern?

Introduction

In a world where blending in is the norm, a bold few dare to stand out, disrupt expectations, and carve their own paths. Welcome to Blacknalt’s ARTIST SPOTLIGHT—a platform dedicated to amplifying the voices of rising BIPOC musicians who are reshaping the alternative music landscape.

Music has never been one-size-fits-all, and neither are the artists we highlight. While we embrace the alternative spirit, our spotlight isn’t confined to a single genre. From the electrifying riffs of rock to the hypnotic beats of K-pop, the soul-stirring melodies of R&B, the raw emotion of indie, and everything in between, we celebrate the innovators, the rule-breakers, and the storytellers who challenge the status quo.

This series is more than just a showcase—it’s a movement. It’s about recognizing the cultural depth, artistry, and resilience of BIPOC musicians who are pushing sonic boundaries and bringing fresh perspectives to the music industry. Each feature dives deep into their creative journeys, struggles, triumphs, and the influences that shape their sound.

So, whether you’re looking for your next favorite artist or simply love discovering music that defies expectations, Blacknalt’s ARTIST SPOTLIGHT is your front-row seat to the future of sound. Stay tuned, because these artists aren’t just making music—they’re making history.

This is Cavern

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from, and what do you create?

Born in Nigeria, raised in Stockton, CA. I make Alternative Afro Music & Dark Rnb.

What first inspired you to start making music?

The challenge and also I believe in the future. I wanted to journal so that if im not around anymore my loved ones have access to my raw and sincere thoughts and opinions. But my hand writing is ugly. Making music is alot easier because I don’t have to waste paper.

How would you describe your sound in three words?

Dark, Vulnerable, & Opinionated

What’s a dream collaboration for you?

The Weeknd

Can you share the story behind your artist name (if you have one)?

I don’t leave my room much. People started calling it my little cave. When I became cavern my room became known as caverns cave.

Who are your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your style?

Sybyr, The Weeknd, Giveon, Bryson Tiller, and Che Ecru

Was there a specific moment when you knew you wanted to pursue music seriously?

When my first RnB EP gained popularity at 17, I felt a surge of confidence. After 17 years of struggling, it finally seemed like I was on the right path, which inflated my ego.

What’s something you wish more people understood about being an up-and-coming artist?

The struggling artist jokes kinda hurt ngl, it’s real though it’s just for some people this is really everything to them and for others its just something to do to look cool.

What message or impact do you hope to leave with your music?

To accept their own opinions before anyone else's, that love can be beautiful no matter how dark and twisted.

What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects or releases?

SheepinwolfSkin, the first of many Afro/Alt Projects

Conclusion

But it’s not just the sound that captivates. cavern? has a brand that’s not only strong—it’s sharply curated, deeply intentional, and visually striking. From cover art to fashion choices to the way their name floats in lowercase mystery, everything feels like part of a larger vision. There’s a cinematic quality to how cavern? moves through the world—like each post, each song, each visual is another chapter in a quiet, slow-burning story they’re inviting us to live inside.

Their music isn’t just to be heard—it’s to be felt. It taps into something raw and personal, yet universally resonant: longing, desire, nostalgia, peace. In a time when authenticity and aesthetic can often feel like opposites, cavern? proves they can be in perfect harmony. This is more than just background music—it’s mood-setting, soul-stirring, late-night confessional type energy.

There’s no doubt cavern? will be finding their way into more playlists, more hearts, and more rooms. As for me? Their music is already locked into my daily rotation—and I have a feeling it’s going to stay there.
